Experience

Michelle works part-time in an NHS Perinatal Mental Health Service and in her private practice, Myndora Psychology. Prior to working in adult and perinatal mental health in the NHS, Michelle worked with children and adolescents which has deepened her understanding of attachment, parenting, family dynamics, the impact of perinatal mood disorders on the mother, her partner, the wider family, and the maternal bond.

Michelle is neuroaffirmative in her approach. Michelle has keen insight into the impact of trauma and the legacy it leaves behind; fear and self-blame to shame.

Menopause and perimenopause is an area of deep interest for Michelle and she is committed to supporting women who struggle with this transition. She has undertaken specialist training in menopause mental health, which enables her to practice as a menopause-informed psychologist.

“I know what it feels like to look in the mirror and see an empty reflection; loss, isolation, trauma, grief – they shape us.  We need people and we need compassion to help us find our way back to ourselves. That’s how I see the role of the psychologist; someone who can offer you skills, wisdom, courage, motivation, who is committed to your healing. Someone who can support and enable you. The therapeutic relationship is fundamental, it’s the vehicle for change”.Michelle

FAQs

1. WHAT CAN I EXPECT FROM MY FIRST THERAPY SESSION?

Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin exploring the challenges you want to address. It’s normal to feel a little nervous, but our therapists are skilled in providing a safe and supportive space where you can share your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

There is no ‘exact’ answer to this question because the length of therapy can depend on the issues we address, the type of therapy we use, and of course, your own plans. Typically, people have about eight to twelve weekly sessions, with a midway review to see how things are going. Other people might have more sessions and space them out fortnightly or monthly. Longer term therapy tends to be around six to twelve months. We can work out what is best for you and meets your financial needs.

Your therapy is confidential; however, there are exceptions to confidentiality. If your psychologist believes that you are a risk to yourself or others, they may contact other professionals involved in your care, such as your GP. They will inform you if they intend to do so. All therapists have to have clinical supervision, and they talk about their cases with their supervisors; this is a ‘closed’ relationship and information is protected.

We understand that life is unpredictable—illness, work demands, and unexpected events can arise. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, we kindly ask that you provide at least 48 hours’ notice. This allows us the opportunity to offer your time slot to another client who may be waiting for an appointment.

While we do need to maintain our business operations, we value flexibility and will do our best to rearrange your session if possible. Please don’t hesitate to reach out as soon as you know you’re unable to attend, and we’ll work with you to explore options. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
