Your first therapy session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other and begin exploring the challenges you want to address. It’s normal to feel a little nervous, but I provide a safe and supportive space where you can share your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.
Â
There is no ‘exact’ answer to this question because the length of therapy can depend on the issues we address, the type of therapy we use, and of course, your own plans. Typically, people have about eight to twelve weekly sessions, with a midway review to see how things are going. Other people might have more sessions and space them out fortnightly or monthly. Longer term therapy tends to be around six to twelve months. We can work out what is best for you and meets your financial needs.
Your therapy is confidential; however, there are exceptions to confidentiality. If your psychologist believes that you are a risk to yourself or others, they may contact other professionals involved in your care, such as your GP. They will inform you if they intend to do so. All therapists have to have clinical supervision, and they talk about their cases with their supervisors; this is a ‘closed’ relationship and information is protected.
We understand that life is unpredictable—illness, work demands, and unexpected events can arise. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, we kindly ask that you provide at least 48 hours’ notice. This allows us the opportunity to offer your time slot to another client who may be waiting for an appointment.
While we do need to maintain our business operations, we value flexibility and will do our best to rearrange your session if possible. Please don’t hesitate to reach out as soon as you know you’re unable to attend, and we’ll work with you to explore options. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
